Where the Water Go?
Water Budget Analysis on the Mississippi River: Baton Rouge to Belle Chasse Cumulative Volume Assessment
This research project looked into the USGS Gages of Baton Rouge, Caenarvon, Davis Pond, and Belle Chasse on the Mississippi River to compare the water volume passing through these points on the river. Previous research showed that there was water being lost in this area due to groundwater, but the amount of water lost did not make sense due to the size of the volume. I handled each 15-minute reading from these gages along the river in Excel to see if there was a patterned error with the data. It was discovered that when the stage rises fast at Baton Rouge, it doesn't read all the water that passes through.
This project was carried out by me under the direction of Gary Brown. This was done over the 2022 summer as part of my internship with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering Research and Development Center.
